MUS 103 Introduction to Music Education

Provides an introduction to the practice of teaching music in public schools in the United States. Includes teaching and learning music through reading, discussion, creative projects, field observations, and peer teaching experiences. Provides a breadth of experiences so prospective teachers can make informed decisions regarding their career path.

Identify rationales for the inclusion of music in public schools. Identify rationales and influences for wanting to teach music. Identify pathways to teacher licensure for Oregon and/or other states. Describe the role of Federal, State, and local government in public schooling. Describe the curricular process in United States public schools. Describe rudimentary aspects of learning and music learning. Describe and adhere to ethical practices and teacher disposition.
