PH 212 General Physics With Calculus
The second course of a three-course calculus-based series of introductory college physics for students in science, engineering, and other curricula who plan to transfer credit to a four-year college or university, or for anyone desiring an understanding of physics principles. Covers topics such as universal gravitation, rotational mechanics and dynamics, static equilibrium, fluid mechanics, simple harmonic motion, waves, superposition of waves, sound, and geometric and wave optics. Includes a laboratory component. Lab exercises clarify physical principles and teach measurement and analysis skills. Recommended: MTH 254 Calculus (taken concurrently) for those students who will take PH 213.
Prerequisite
MTH 252 and
PH 211 with a grade of C or better.
Notes
Lower Division Transfer (LDT) Course
General Education Requirements
AAOT Science/Math Lab Course, AGS Math/Science, AS Physical Science
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Apply concepts from PH 211 in conjunction with Newton';s Law of Gravitation. Apply concepts from PH 211 in conjunction with rotational motion (i.e. rotational kinematics, moments of inertia, and angular momentum). Solve static fluid and dynamic fluid problems. Apply concepts of simple harmonic motion in order to solve problems dealing with single particles or systems of particles (i.e. traveling waves). Apply principles of interference to solve problems involving standing waves, diffraction, wave optics and/or matter waves. Solve problems using ray optics. Design an experiment, collect data, synthesize data, and report on results.
