PBT 101 Phlebotomy Law & Ethics

Through medical ethics courses, students examine the ethical and legal issues surrounding the practice of medicine. This course covers legal responsibilities and relationships that govern Phlebotomy. Emphasis is placed on legal terms, professionalism and the principles and basic concepts of ethics and laws involved in providing Phlebotomy services. Required: Admission to the Phlebotomy program.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Describe the federal, state, and local mandated regulations regarding Phlebotomy safety practices. Explain the OSHA Blood borne Pathogens Standard and Needle Safety Precaution Act. Summarize the practices outlined in the OSHA Hazard Communications Standard which includes the correct use of the Material Safety Data Sheet. Describe the American Hospital Associations' Patient's Bill of Rights.
