MTH 211 Fund Of Elementary Math I
One of three courses in the mathematics cluster for prospective elementary and middle school teachers. Develops the understanding of basic mathematical concepts necessary for teaching mathematics in grades K-8. Topics include problem solving, whole numbers, algorithms for computation, numeration systems, number theory and fractions.

Prerequisite: MTH 095 Intermediate Algebra or equivalent with a grade of C or better.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Solve mathematical problems using multiple approaches. Solve problems and explain mathematical concepts using manipulatives. Explain and apply multiple methods for arithmetic computations with fractions, whole numbers and numbers in different bases. Communicate mathematical concepts and algorithms in a variety of ways: written, verbal, or by demonstration.
