Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Delineate the major components of the American criminal justice system, i.e., police, courts, and corrections. Explain the process of American criminal justice from investigation to arrest to pretrial and adjudication, sentencing and corrections. Explain the characteristics, elements and categories of crimes. Explain types of defenses to criminal charges. Identify and analyze constitutional principles related to criminal procedure. Apply analytical skills to social phenomena in order to understand human behavior.
