NUR 102B Introductory Medical-Surgical Practice
The second course in the lab series. Applies theory from the didactic portion of the curriculum to clinical practice. Focuses on the application of the fundamental principles of nursing care of the previous term and newly introduced concepts related to introductory medical-surgical nursing. Engages students in legal-ethical principles in documentation, confidentiality, and communication. Develops abilities in select nursing skills and physical assessment in the lab, simulation, and clinical settings. Students begin to actively manage and direct nursing care safely and effectively.

NUR 101A with a grade of C or better and successful completion of

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Management of Care: Apply evidence-based research to plan care and develop a nursing care plan with two diagnoses. Safety and Infection Control: Identify appropriateness and or/accuracy of prescribed treatments.
Health Promotion and Maintenance: Provide clients with basic health promotion and self care education. Psychosocial Integrity: Assess the client’s coping mechanisms and support systems. Basic Care and Comfort: Assess and manage a client with alterations in elimination or nutrition. Demonstrates skills acquisition in the simulated care setting.Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies: Administer oral and parenteral medications safely in the presence of faculty. Reduction of Risk Potential: Identify and use precautions to prevent injury and or complications associated with care provided. Physiological Adaptation: Provide care for a client recovering from surgery, procedure, or alterations in body systems. Professional Engagement: Identify one's own limitations and integrate feedback into performance.
