PHL 215 History Of Western Philosophy
Introduces students to the major philosophers and issues of the past 2,500 years and the historical conditions that have affected, and been affected by, the development of philosophy. An attempt is made to embrace a study of significant thinkers from all cultures throughout the ages. The major emphasis of the course, however, is on the philosophies of the Western World. Recommended: College level reading and writing skills.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Identify key concepts in the history of Western philosophy and describe the characteristics that distinguish Western Philosophy from that of other regions. Identify individuals who contributed significant ideas to philosophy and place them within their historical context. Identify major ideas which gave birth to the concept of philosophy and trace their evolution to the contemporary world.
