Addresses the pharmacology of some popular drugs in Western society. Discusses contemporary issues involving the effects of drug use, misuse and abuse on the individual and society in general.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Examine and identify ways that drugs influence and alter psychological process and physiological functioning of the brain and nervous system. Identify and summarize the controlled substance schedules and four primary laws regulating or related to drug possession, distribution, prescription and use. Analyze and apply the concept of harm reduction and discuss current examples. List and recognize at least five related resources for acquiring information about drug use, abuse, statistics and treatment options at the local and national levels.
