EC 215 Economic Development in the U.S.

Provides historical study and understanding of the sources of economic growth and change in the United States. Discussions about how changes in industry, agriculture, commerce, transportation, labor, and finance have affected the speed of change of the American lifestyles and the increased economic well-being of society.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Describe the development of the U.S. economy from the colonial era to the present. Apply principles of economics to aspects of historical economic development and origins of economic institutions such as financial markets, corporate management, and the role of government. Apply principles of economics and aspects of historical economic development in the United States to a current affair. Describe the role of non-Western and minority groups in U.S. economic history. Describe the impact of economic changes in creating income and social inequality. Assess the impact of capitalism on economic growth and various social institutions from colonial era to present.
