OTA 222 Pediatric Theory & Practice

Explores normal development, common diagnoses, and occupational context associated with infancy, childhood, and adolescence. Students learn theory and practice skills for performing assessments and providing treatment for pediatric clients. Emphasis is placed on safety, activity analysis, therapeutic use of self, and documentation. Required: Admission into the OTA program.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Gather and record data to contribute to the evaluation of pediatric clients. Generate and propose ideas in contribution to the development of the intervention plan and intervention strategies for pediatric clients. Implement select interventions for pediatric clients in a manner that is safe, effective, and ethical. Educate pediatric clients and their caregivers to facilitate the development of skills in areas of occupation, as well as prevent disease and injury, promote health and wellness. Monitor and assess the response of pediatric clients to intervention.
