APR 224 Protective Signaling
Designed for the electrical apprentice working/studying to become a Class-A Limited Energy Technician. The topics covered in this course include: Fire Alarm Systems, Intrusion Detection Systems, Access Control and Nurse Call. The National Electrical Code (NEC) will be emphasized as it relates to the safe installation of each of these low voltage systems. Recommended: MTH 075 Variable and Linear Equations.

Prerequisite: APR 223 Communication Systems and Networks with a grade of "C" or better.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Identify & explain codes and standards as they relate to fire alarm, intrusion detection, and nurse call installations. Identify types and describe characteristics of sensors, notification devices, and control panels. Explain the operation of typical entry control systems and their associated access control methods. Describe general installation guidelines for access control system equipment.
