PBT 190 Phlebotomy Practicum
Allows students to gain practical experience while participating in a supervised learning experience in a health care field. Requires completing competencies and working a specified number of hours during the term in preparation to sit for the national ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) examination upon graduation.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Perform venipuncture on a patient with proper technique using a vacutainer. Perform venipuncture on a patient with proper technique using a syringe. Perform a finger stick on a patient with the proper technique. Perform a heel stick on a patient with the proper technique. Perform an arterial blood gas with the proper technique and patient care. Demonstrate effective communication techniques with patients, family members, and colleagues using verbal, written, and information technology tools/devices.
