APR 224 Protective Signaling

Designed for the electrical apprentice working/studying to become a Class-A Limited Energy Technician. The topics covered in this course include: Fire Alarm Systems, Intrusion Detection Systems, Access Control and Nurse Call. The National Electrical Code (NEC) will be emphasized as it relates to the safe installation of each of these low voltage systems.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Identify and explain codes and standards as they relate to fire alarms, intrusion detection, and nurse call installations. Describe the relationship between fire alarms system a life safety. Describe the characteristics and functions of various fire alarm components. Describe the theory behind conventional, addressable, and analog fire alarm systems and explain how each functions. Identify types and describe characteristic of sensors, notification devices, and control panels. Explain and describe the different types of circuitry than connect intrusion detection system components. Explain the operation of typical entry control systems and their associated access control methods. Describe general installation guidelines for access control system equipment. Describe the different types of nurse call systems and explain their differences. State the general installation guidelines that apply to nurse call systems.
