Studies the history, development, technology and social impact of the various mass media. Includes critical analysis of media practice and ethics, the study of significant figures and developments, and the examination of the media as channels of expression in popular culture.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Demonstrate an awareness of the history and evolution of the radio, television, music, internet, book, magazine, newspaper and movie industries in America. Demonstrate an understanding of the role of technology in the development of value mass media channels. Demonstrate an appreciation of the role played by mass communications practitioners in journalism, advertising, music and movie in shaping public discourse. Ability to use the internet to search current issues facing various mass media.
