MUS 111 Music Theory I
Covers basic structure of music (tonality, modality, melody, harmony, rhythm, modulation and phrase structure) as it is exhibited through diatonic harmony.
Prerequisite
Required: Grade of C or higher in
MUS 101 Music Fundamentals.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Realize a piece of music in four-part harmony from a standard figured bass. Analyze and compose music based on standard 17th and 18th century techniques. Analyze and resolve chords (triads and seventh chords) using traditional chord resolution techniques. Compose short compositions in four-part harmony using the traditional rules of counterpoint. Correctly notate music through aural and visual analysis.
