Recognize and employ the distinctive features of creative nonfiction essay in the creation and polishing of creative non-fiction essays. Understand and recognize how elements of fiction writing plot, characterization, setting, metaphor, point of view, voice, etc can be applied to non fiction essays writing to make them more effective and interesting. Practice using these elements in exercise and essays. Develop a writing process that supports both their creative revising process. Use a variety of creative writing processes to generate material for creative non fiction essays. Understand and pracitce the craft of turning raw creative material into a polished essay, creating structure, adding researched material, working with a writing group, deepening the use of creative non fiction stragegies, editing and proofreading. Interpret and respond to creative non fiction essays through critical reading. Gain understanding of creative non fiction through close reading of essays. Compare and contrast the literary elements and strategies among differen creative non fiction writers. Evaluate and respond to the style, content, and techniques of creative non fiction essasy. Demonstrate how creative non fiction writing enhances personal awareness and creativity. Use a variety of personal reflective and creative writing processes to both generate material for creative non fiction essays and to deepen their awareness of the world around them and their experience of it. Write and speak confidently about their own and others work.
