CH 243 Organic Chemistry
The third course of a three-term sequence for students in the sciences, chemical engineering, and professional health programs. Topics include nomenclature, in-depth treatment of major classes of organic compounds, spectroscopy, mechanisms and synthesis. Includes a laboratory component. Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Work safely in a laboratory environment while observing and accurately recording measurements related to chemical phenomena. Apply organic chemical principles and theories as they relate to compound structure, acid/base conjugate pairs, alkanes, alkyl halides, and alcohols. Determine the chemical reaction type (neutralization, addition, substitution and elimination), illustrate its mechanisms, and determine the products.
