Covers the rules and regulations that govern laboratories in the State of Oregon. Examines the ethical, professional and confidentiality standards set by medical and clinical laboratory professions. Required: Admission to the Phlebotomy program.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Describe the federal, state, and local mandated regulations regarding Phlebotomy safety practices. Explain the OSHA Blood borne Pathogens Standard and Needle Safety Precaution Act. Summarize the practices outlined in the OSHA Hazard Communications Standard which includes the correct use of the Material Safety Data Sheet. Describe the American Hospital Associations' Patient's Bill of Rights.
