NUR 101B Fundamentals of Nursing Practice
The first course in the lab series. Applies theory from the didactic portion of the curriculum to the nursing practice experiences in skills laboratory, direct client care, and simulation. Focuses on the development of nursing roles and responsibilities; providing for basic care needs, communicating, documenting, performing physical assessments, and the development of a nursing care plan.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Gather data from the electronic medical record, and document client care and assessment findings into the electronic medical record. Use data gathered from shift assessments and electronic medical record to develop a nursing care plan with one priority diagnosis and engage in the care for that client. Demonstrate competency in performing a physical assessment and identifying normal findings. Engage in the work of nursing by developing rapport with clients, assisting to meet basic care needs, communicating with other members of the health care team and participating in ongoing validation of client safety. Demonstrate knowledge of non-parenteral medication preparation and administration. Recognize student role in the health care setting, take responsibility for self-learning, reflect on own performance.
