NUR 102B Introductory Medical-Surgical Practice
The second course in the lab series. Applies theory from the didactic portion of the curriculum to the nursing practice experiences in skills laboratory, direct client care, and simulation. Expands on the safe application of principles from the previous term and begins to integrate concepts of perioperative and medical-surgical nursing. Students begin to actively manage and direct nursing care safely and effectively while integrating new skills. Required: Admission to Nursing program.
Prerequisite
NUR 101A with a grade of C or better and successful completion of
NUR 101B.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Perform accurate physical assessments based on client's condition, and document findings accurately in the electronic medical record. Develops a nursing care plan with two priority nursing diagnoses that is culturally appropriate. Communicate with members of the healthcare team in order to facilitate a collaborative approach to care. Administer oral medications safely in the presence of faculty. Demonstrate skills with a focus on client safety and self-evaluation. Engage in nursing care with focus on clients' individual needs and health status, reinforcing basic health promotion and health-related education during care. Reflect on the perioperative environment, the roles and responsibilities of the team members, processes, and procedures that provide safety to clients.
