NUR 201B Advanced Medical-Surgical Practice
The fourth course in the lab series. Applies theory from the didactic portion of the curriculum to nursing practice experiences in simulation and direct client care in a variety of settings. Continues to build on safe application of skills and principles from previous terms while assuming care of clients with more advanced medical-surgical problems. Focuses on collaboration and coordination of care while beginning to evaluate and modify nursing care plans. Required: Admission to Nursing program.

NUR 103A with a grade of C or better and successful completion of
NUR 103B.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Manage the care of individuals and families, providing timely, quality and organized nursing care; begin directing and supervising unlicensed assistive personnel in the coordination of care. Demonstrate safety in administration of IV medications/fluids while supervised. Develop and implement evidenced based, client-centered nursing care plans with at least four nursing diagnoses to include evaluating and modifying plans. Work collaboratively by communicating professionally using standardized communication tools to relay the status of clients to faculty and the healthcare team. Demonstrate advocacy for clients by identifying concerns and potential problems and implementing measures to reduce risks.
