MUS 122 Literature and Materials of Music II
An integrated approach to the study of Western art music, including repertory, melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic components, formal organization, and composition. Recommended: MUS 114 Aural Skills I and Piano Lessons taken concurrently with this course.
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Realize a piece of music in four-part harmony from a standard figured bass as well as lead sheet. Analyze and compose music based on standard 17th and 18th century techniques as well as American Vernacular techniques. Analyze and resolve chords (triads and seventh chords) using traditional chord resolution techniques. Compose short compositions in four-part harmony using the traditional rules of species counterpoint. Correctly notate music through aural and visual analysis.
