CH 201 Chemistry For Engineering Majors I

The first course of a two-course series of selected chemistry topics for pre-engineering students. Provides engineering majors with a fundamental understanding of chemical reactions and scientific measurements. Introduces students to principles, laws, and equations that govern our understanding of chemical combinations. Includes a laboratory component.

Outcomes

Solve engineering-related scientific problems with quantitative methods using dimensional analysis and/or algebra regarding unit conversions, and stoichiometry including solution stoichiometry. Apply chemical principles associated with chemical and physical changes and properties of matter, atomic theory, Periodic Table development, nomenclature, chemical reactions, and stoichiometry. Apply chemical principles related to quantum theory, quantum mechanics, atomic orbital theory, periodic trends, and covalent bond theory. Perform general chemistry experiments, analyze recorded data, and evaluate the data while working safely in a laboratory environment.
