ANS 220 Introductory Horse Science
Basic course in commercial horse production and management. Covers breeds, breeding systems, physiology, nutrition, reproduction and diseases. Also develops basic skills in handling, foot care, feeding, selection and health management.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Distinguish types and breeds. Safety handle and restrain a horse. Understand the skeletal and muscle anatomy, physiology and behavior of the horse. Age a horse using wear patterns on teeth. Explain basic equine reproductive, physiology, and breeding methods. Select and balance a quality feed ration. Practice good equine husbandry and management. Write a formal scientific laboratory report.
