AU3. 301 Automotive Service and Repair Practice

Automotive service and repair practices takes place at the Advanced Transportation Technology Center (ATTC) and the course is an attempt to simulate an automotive repair shop environment. Through practice on program vehicles as well as live public projects students will gain experience with the diagnosis and repair of vehicles. Students are responsible for following proper industry standards for safety and workmanship. Students are required to research repair process and labor times and set a goal to reach the professional flat-rate time standard. Doing so will challenge their use of tools, service literature, shop awareness and improve their growth towards professional automotive technicians.

Prerequisite: AU3. 316 Maintenance and Light Repair and AU3. 317 Electrical Sys and Engine Performance with a grade of C or better.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Demonstrate proper safety practices while working in an automotive repair shop environment. Demonstrate the ability to use online and written repair information including labor guides, wire diagrams, diagnostic flow charts, and vehicle system descriptions. Demonstrate correct use of shop tools and specialty equipment to diagnose and repair various vehicle makes, models, and sub systems. Demonstrate clear communication with peers, customers, and supervisors/instructors.
