Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Recognize natural hazards that pose risks to individuals, communities, and society using scientific data and reports. Demonstrate how such hazards arise from the basic physical and geological processes that operate near the Earth’s surface. Evaluate the potential effects of specific hazards associated with earthquakes, tsunami, cyclones, volcanoes, and climate change. Assess the portrayal of geoscience processes and hazards in popular media. Determine the vulnerability of specific communities to specific hazards, and effectively communicate recommendations to mitigate risk to a diverse audience.
