MA3. 420 CNC: Mill

Provides training in the operation and part programming of the modern vertical machining center. Students learn safe manufacturing methods by completing a series of assignments using one of two Haas vertical machining centers. Students will gain experience reading, writing and editing part programs using industry standard G & M code programming. Required: Basic computer competency.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Set up and operate modern Vertical Machining Centers. Read, write and edit NC code for three axis machining. Understand the Cartesian Coordinate Systems. Follow safety procedures for CNC machine tools. Use polar to rectangle conversion and right angle trigonometry to calculate tool paths. Plan a logical order of Operations and tools changes. Balance cutting speed, feed rate and depth of cut for efficient machining.
