PSY 220 Thinking Like a Social Scientist
Helps you develop critical thinking skills to evaluate evidence and understand psychological research. You’ll learn how to analyze media coverage of psychological science and identify what’s credible. Focuses on improving your ability to communicate clearly about research, including discussing methods, ethics, and the strengths and limitations of evidence. By the end, you’ll be better equipped to assess and discuss psychological science in everyday life.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Identify variables, research questions, hypotheses, and research designs in scientific psychology articles and media and evaluate the quality of evidence presented. Effectively use evidence to assess and analyze hypotheses related to human behavior. Critically evaluate psychological research designs and the quality of evidence across various sources. Communicate effectively about the strengths and limitations of empirical evidence and psychological research, addressing methodological and ethical considerations.
