Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Perform pulmonary functions testing. Select proper sites for administering parenteral medication. Administer oral medications. Administer parenteral excluding IV medications. Assist Physican with Patient Care. Apply critical thinking skills in performing patient assessment and care. Identify both abbreviations and symbols used in calculating medication dosages. Prepare proper dosages of medication for administration. Maintain laboratory test results using flow sheets. Verify ordered doses dosages prior to administration. Differentiate between medical and surical asepsis used in ambulatory care setting, identifying when each is appropriate. Prepare a patient for procedures and or treatment. Discuss critical elements of an emergency plan for response to a natural disaster or other emergency. Identify emergency preparedness plan in your community. Discuss potential roles of the medical assistant in emergency preparedness. Comply with safety signs, symbols and labels. Evaluate the work environment to identify safe vs unsafe working conditions. Develop a personal patient and employee safety plan. Develop an environmental safety plan. Demonstrate proper use of the following equipment, Fire extinguishers. Demonstrate proper use of the following equipment Sharps disposal containers. Participate in a mock environmental exposure events with documentation of steps taken. Explain an evacuation plan for a physician s office. Demonstrate methods of fire prevention in a healthcare setting.
