NUR 201A Advanced Medical-Surgical Care
The fourth course in the lecture series. Focuses on advanced medical-surgical care and concepts. Includes content related to adult and pediatric neurology, complex fluid management, chronic illness, advanced mental health, cardiovascular disorders, oncology II, genetics, and hematology. Prepares students for NUR 201B Advanced Medical Surgical Practice.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Management of Care: Identify and apply the legal and ethical parameters of the nursing profession in relation to chronic illness and dying. Safety and Infection Control: Apply principles of safety and infection control with clients with a variety of chronic health problems. Health Promotion and Maintenance: Identify protocols to reinforce health promotion and self-care education to clients and care-providers.
Psychosocial Integrity: Identify appropriate nursing care and education for clients in relation to chronic illness and dying. Basic Care and Comfort: Identify pain management issues and intake/output needs for clients. Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies: Identify appropriate nursing responsibilities for delivery of medications, blood products and/or infusions.
Reduction of Risk Potential: Identify trends and changes in client conditions and intervene as needed. Physiological Adaptation: Identify appropriate nursing care for clients with an alteration in hemodynamic, tissue perfusion and/or hemostasis. Professional Engagement: Demonstrate collaboration with peers to create health promotion information tools.
