NUR 268C Drug Therapy & Nursing Implications
Builds on the knowledge acquired in NUR 268B and continues to focus on nursing management, critical thinking, and safety with regard to medication therapy. Includes the topics of: pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, specific drug therapies, interactions of the drug groups which are applicable to the content provided in NUR 103A. Uses drug lists for each major category of drugs to direct learning for drug action, safe dosage, side effects, drug interactions, adverse reactions and nursing implications.
Prerequisite
NUR 268B Drug Therapy and Nursing Implications with a grade of C or better.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Management of Care: Perform procedures necessary to safely admit, discharge, or transfer a client related to medication management. Safety and Infection Control: Identify safety concerns in medication management across the lifespan. Health Promotion and Maintenance: Understand and begin to educate clients on immunization schedules. Psychosocial Integrity: Assess family dynamics and the implication of medication management across the lifespan. Basic Care and Comfort: Assess the client's ability to swallow and chew and how this affects medication management. Pharmacological and Parenteral Therapies: Perform calculations needed for medication administration. Reduction of Risk Potential: Develop an appropriate client teaching plan surrounding the signs and symptoms of bleeding, including interventions. Physiological Adaptation: Apply knowledge of pathophysiology to clients with fluid and electrolyte imbalances. Professional Engagement: Participate in reflective practice.
