DA5. 488 Expanded Duties I

A study of procedures beyond the scope of general chairside assisting. The Oregon Dental Practice Act allows for instruction in placement and removal of matrix retainers, placement of temporary restorations, coronal polishing and fluoride treatments. Includes techniques to acquire skills for taking alginate impressions, taking bit registrations for study model articulation and placement and removal of sub-gingival retraction cord. Emphasis is on patient care and post operative instructions. Required: Acceptance into the Dental Assistant Program.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Demonstrate the ability to correctly assemble, place, and remove matrices, retainers, and wedges. Identify, demonstrate and place temporary restorations. Apply skills using proper fulcrums while performing coronal polish, fluoride application and other intra-oral procedures. Apply skills by alginate impressions taking and bite registrations for study model articulation. Demonstrate the ability to correctly place and remove sub-gingival retraction cord.
