This course explores why the United States lags behind other high-income democracies in health and well-being. Students examine how behaviors, environmental risks, public policies, and socioeconomic disparities contribute to lower average life expectancy and overall health outcomes in the U.S.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Analyze and compare societal factors that contribute to differences in health outcomes between the United States and other advanced democracies. Evaluate potential solutions for improving health outcomes by applying lessons from international examples and domestic interventions. Examine one’s own role and position within the context of population-level health behaviors and influential social determinants.
