AUT 299 Engine Repair
Covers the diagnosis and service of internal combustion engine mechanical systems used in modern vehicles. Students learn to identify components, diagnose mechanical faults, inspect and measure engine parts, perform disassembly and reassembly procedures, and verify proper engine operation according to manufacturer specifications. Emphasis is placed on servicing cylinder heads, valve trains, timing systems, engine block assemblies, lubrication systems, and cooling systems using precision measuring tools, industry-standard service procedures, and safe work practices. The course builds upon foundational automotive repair skills developed in earlier coursework.
Prerequisite
AUT 316 Maintenance and Light Repair,
AUT 317 Electrical Systems & Engine Performance and
AUT 319 Suspension, Steering & Braking with a grade of C or better.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Diagnose and service internal combustion engine mechanical systems by inspecting, measuring, repairing, or replacing components according to manufacturer specifications. Remove, disassemble, inspect, measure, and reassemble engine components in accordance with manufacturer service procedures and specifications. Diagnose and repair cylinder head, valve train, and timing system concerns using appropriate inspection, measurement, and service procedures. Diagnose and repair engine block assemblies and related components, including pistons, connecting rods, crankshafts, and bearings. Diagnose and service engine lubrication and cooling systems to restore proper operation and prevent engine damage. Apply precision measuring techniques and follow industry safety and quality standards while performing all engine repair operations.
