AUT 319 Suspension, Steering & Braking
Introduces the theory, operation, inspection, and service of modern vehicle suspension, steering, and braking systems. Students learn to identify components, explain system functions, perform inspections, and carry out basic service procedures related to ride control, wheel alignment, and braking performance. Emphasis is placed on pre-alignment inspection procedures, wheel, tire, and bearing service, and the safe use of industry-standard equipment. The course develops foundational chassis knowledge and skills that prepare students for certification in chassis service and for advanced study in vehicle dynamics and electronic driver assistance systems.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Apply professional work habits and established safety practices while performing suspension, steering, and braking inspections and service. Identify major suspension, steering, and braking system components and explain their functions and interactions. Inspect and perform basic service on suspension and steering system components using appropriate tools and manufacturer service procedures. Inspect and perform basic service on hydraulic and mechanical braking system components according to manufacturer specifications. Perform wheel, tire, and bearing inspection and service using appropriate equipment and service procedures. Explain basic wheel alignment theory and perform pre-alignment inspections to evaluate system condition.
