MUS 290 Clinical Processes I
This course serves as an overview of the therapeutic use of music and is an introduction to the music therapy clinical process with cases that illustrate clinical competencies contained in the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) Professional Competencies document. Assessment, treatment planning, clinical observation, data collection, session design, evaluation, and documentation will be covered.
Prerequisite
MUS 121 Literature and Materials of Music I,
MUS 122 Literature and Materials of Music II and
MUS 190 Introduction to Music Therapy with a grade of C or higher.

Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Demonstrate an understanding of the clinical treatment process spanning assessment, treatment planning, data collection, and outcome reporting. Demonstrate growth in song-leading and clinical facilitation skills. Develop a basic understanding of evidence-based practice and how to plan appropriate music interventions.
