WD4. 256 Basic Pipe Welding Skills
Provides hands-on skill development in basic vertical-up, open-v groove, and butt-joint pipe welding techniques on carbon steel pipe using shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) and gas tungsten-arc welding (GTAW) processes. Includes technical lectures in related subjects.
Prerequisite
Prerequisite:
WD4. 152 Welding II with a grade of C or better.

Career Technical Education (CTE) Course
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Demonstrate knowledge and awareness of special considerations applicable to welding pipe with the SMAW and GTAW processes. Perform proper welding techniques on varying grooves with applicable processes. Prepare material for welding in desired position. Recognize the different positions welding may be performed in and how welding process may affect this. Assess welds to a code standard.
