AUT 300 Automatic Transmissions & Transaxles
Covers the diagnosis and service of automatic transmission and transaxle systems used in modern vehicles. Students learn to identify system components, diagnose operational concerns, inspect and test hydraulic, mechanical, and electronic systems, perform in-vehicle maintenance and component-level repairs, and verify proper system operation according to manufacturer specifications. Emphasis is placed on hydraulic and electronic controls, scan tool analysis, and oscilloscope waveform interpretation using industry-standard diagnostic equipment and manufacturer service information. The course builds upon foundational knowledge of electrical systems and drivetrain fundamentals developed in earlier automotive coursework.
Prerequisite
AUT 298 Advanced Engine Performance and
AUT 299 Engine Repair with a grade of C or better.
Notes
Career Technical Education (CTE) Course
Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Diagnose and service automatic transmission and transaxle systems by inspecting, testing, repairing, or replacing components according to manufacturer specifications. Perform in-vehicle maintenance, adjustments, and minor repairs on automatic transmission and transaxle systems using manufacturer service procedures. Remove, disassemble, inspect, measure, and repair automatic transmission and transaxle components in accordance with manufacturer specifications. Diagnose and repair hydraulic, mechanical, and electronic control system faults using appropriate test equipment and service information. Interpret scan tool data and oscilloscope waveforms to evaluate electronic circuit performance and verify repairs. Locate and apply manufacturer service procedures and follow established safety standards during all automatic transmission and transaxle repair operations.
