Introduction to the use and application of biostatistics for students in health-related studies. Topics include qualitative analysis, quantitative analysis and inference, and statistical methods in the biosciences to evaluate and control health problems.

Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Examine the importance of biostatistics in public health and medical research. Differentiate between observational and experimental studies and recognize the strengths and weaknesses of each type of study. Recognize the basic limitations on statistical procedures and know when and how to use them appropriately. Interpret statistical results, tables, and figures from the public health and medical literature. Distinguish and defend the use of appropriate statistical methods in current published public health research.
